Born this Way

So I bought the entirety of Lady Gaga's new album yesterday from Amazon for $.99, which was a deal that could not be passed up.

I have since listed to the album in its entirety (finally) and I definitely have a few words. (As promised)

I think I will make another post stating the songs individually and my thoughts about them when I have a little more time, but for now, I am just going to judge the album as a whole.

He beats are SPOT ON. She rocks a sound that reminds me of The Fame Monster but has till evolved from that into really danceable club hits. I am impressed by the diversity of sounds on the album. She played with new mediums, granted, some were not needed such as the sax in "Edge of Glory," but I have to commend her for doing something different.

I will say that the titles of her songs are a little poorly thought out. She has a song called "Highway Unicorn" and I was immediately turned off by the name so I listened to it close to last. Turns out, the song is actually decent. I think she should have thought of these sort of things, because a song called "Highway Unicorn" is probably not going to make it far on a chart. But it might. Maybe that is just a preference of mine.

Lyrically, I have to give the album a thumbs down. I was a little annoyed at the literal feel to her lyrics. "Poker Face" is a great example of a simple song that is dripping with double meaning. I was hoping to see a little more of that, but I did not. Everything is about exactly what it says it is about pretty much, which to me is sad because she is a great songwriter.

Some gems on the album: "You and I" (MY GOD this song is perfect), "Edge of Glory", and the German one. I know the name I just can't type that character.

So overall, worth my $.99? I think yes. Worth $13? I think that a buyer should preview the album first because I have a feeling that some people are going to love it, and some are going to hate it. There will be very little middle ground. This is Gaga. She is the queen of extremes.

I'm Alive!

Well, I am here to say that I survived the Rapture that didn't happen.

Hmmm. U Mad Harold Camping? Haha.

Anyway, yesterday got me to thinking that life could really end at any second, though it isn't likely that it will end with cataclysmic earthquakes that engulf 95% of the population after the believers are swept up, but it does end.

I wondered all day yesterday what I would do my last few hours on earth if I knew that everything was going to end for me or end for the world.

What would I eat? What would I wear? Where would I go? Who would be with me?

I am not sure I can answer these questions really, but I think that they are pretty important to answer before something does happen. I think that it shows priorities and etc. You know, important adult stuff.

Kind of a lame topic I know, but seriously, can you answer those questions?

2012

So today was a pretty big day in the world of politics.

The US has gained a new GOP candidate today.

Herman Cain. Check the link. He's legit, and a Tea Party fave. Joyous.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/05/21/breaking-herman-cain-announces-2012-candidacy/

He will be joining Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich as the announced candidates, though there are several others to be coming out of the wood-work in the near future. (Mitt Romney was in SC today)

So yeah. It will be interesting to see who gets the nomination.

Happy Rapture Day!

I can't help but post about today's important public event, the Rapture.

What is the Rapture? The Rapture is the second coming of Christ, when he comes back to earth and takes the believers to heaven and leave the non-believers to die and suffer. (Read the Left Behind novels - not so terrible.)

Well one organization believes that today is the day that it happens.

Whatever. Obviously this is not happening today. Harold Camping has no idea what he is talking about. CLEARLY. He predicted this in 1994 as well.

And even if it does happen, I'm going looting. I need a new TV anyway. :)

What a Day

Blah.

I apologize for my lack of posting.

Yesterday was a really busy day for me. I met with two representatives from St. Jude on behalf of the organization I started and was the president of: Epsilon Sigma Alpha. There are so many things happening in the near future that St. Jude and ESA are both a part of. I am truly excited to see what is in store!

Anyway, had the best lunch ever: Zunzi's. Oh man, soooooo good. It is a fusion cuisine, so it is a really good mix of Swedish, South African, Italian, and Danish cuisine.

I am a huge fan of this fusion movement. I think that it keeps food fresh and original. I love the fact that here in the states we can finally start to get some culture in our food. Plain on restaurants focused around one type of food are starting to get overdone, so I really appreciate the mixing and matching of different cultures.

I think it is a metaphor for the world. Everyone is starting to mix together now, so cultures will be more open and well, the food will be better :)

I will post about something more worthwhile later. :)

The Whole Album?!

So basically, I have good and bad news.

Lady Gaga decided that she is going to release the entirety of her album online, TODAY. Basically there is an online stream that you can access so many times before the songs are actually available for download.

Yes, this means that the album CAN be heard.

I personally think that this is a really stupid decision on her part, but hey, what do I know? I'm just saying that all of her songs are going to be available fore illegal download by the end of the night. (No, I do not download music this way and no I am not encouraging you to do so.)

I hope the rest of the album is better than what I have heard. And I hope that the recorded version of You and I is good, because if not it will break my heart. :(

I'll share some thoughts as I am able to hear them. :)

Back to the Music

I have recently rediscovered a song that I enjoy.

Of course, I enjoy it a lot more now versus then, but I am so shocked at my lack of obsession with this song before now.

This song is super sexy and I just absolutely love it. Obviously I am just slow or something.

Regardless, I will post it here for you to listen to if you are new to the tune or if you already know it and are ready to fall in love again. :)

Blessing in Disguise

Well, I have yet to tell you this, but I lost my job yesterday, unfortunately. It was one of those situations however that I knew was coming based on one event (I was late one day two weeks ago), but it was still shocking seeing that I was sort of told that everything was OK.

Oh well.

But the good news is that I have so many people going to bat for me! I am so grateful of the opportunities that the people in my life are trying to get me. Thank God for friends and family!

On a different note, I am desperate for work now because I am going to a wedding in June that is a little out of my general price range already, but I am in the wedding party so I am having to buy all sorts of things that I did not anticipate. Grr... hopefully it will all work out for the best.

Sorry about all the Lady Gaga posts. She is driving me crazy right now and the new album release is a pretty big deal.

Feel free to give me some feedback, or a job. :)

Marry the Night

Ah it appears that there was another release!

"Marry the Night"

This one was apparently a single released via GAGAville on Farmville by Zynga. (Retarded). Anyway, here it is:

I don't hate this. It is really reminiscent of old Gaga which I appreciate. It is classic Gaga - sex and clubs. Thank god. I don't feel like I am being forced to appreciate myself, to fight for any sort of rights, or overly exposed to God; which I appreciate.

It's not that inventive of a song, but I appreciate that, because it doesn't sound like she is trying to cram lyrics into a song that just don't fit like several others on the album.

Hair

As promised, though a little later than I expected due to the cluster that has been my day, but this is "Hair."

Overall, I do not hate the style of the song, though I do think that the saxophone in the song randomly is a little out of place. I think that it has a really good beat and it achieves the gay club dance anthem feel really well, which she loves to do.

Lyrically, *sigh*. She's the spirit of her hair? No. I think this is the most retarded thing I have ever heard as far as writing is concerned. This is supposed to be an anthem I guess that tells you to by yourself stylistically , which I suppose it achieves, but WHY DOES EVERY SONG HAVE TO BE SOME SORT OF LIFE CHANGING ANTHEM. I am SO TIRED of her trying to get everyone to get on her soap box. I agree with some of her views, but jesus, this is just bad. I don't want to be my hair. My hair is annoying and curly and gets greasy if I don't blow dry it. No thanks.

I am just so disappointed in all of this album so far (minus "You and I"). What happened to "Bad Romance" style?

Peace Corps

I am currently in the process of applying for the Peace Corps. I am really excited about this and I hope that I will be able to take such a wonderful opportunity.

Also, it takes the place of a big-girl job for awhile and allows me to see the world, which I really want to do, but lack the fundage to do so.

I will be finishing the application today!

Edge of Glory

I hate to do this, but it is Monday now, which is a great day for some, and miserable day for others.

Why great? Lady GaGa is releasing a new song today!

"Hair" from Born this Way will be released today and I am personally nervous about this one.

This whole album to me (thus far) has been somewhat of a joke. I am not impressed in the slightest. I do not appreciate the constant need to make a statement that she seems to have now. First Gay Rights, then a weird Jesus song; WHAT'S NEXT?!

She released the song "Edge of Glory" last week, which was refreshing for me because "Judas" was SO BAD. I still do not feel however that "Edge of Glory" is 100% up to par. Sure, it's catchy. It's perfect pop music vomit, but it's not the kind that I want to clean up.

Here is the song for those of you who have not heard it:

Expect my full review of "Hair" as soon as I get to hear the audio. :)

The Cave

I am pulling an all-nighter this evening and in doing so, I find myself clinging to a few really fabulous songs on YouTube.

Why YouTube? I can't answer that question.

Regardless, I have to say the song that has made the biggest impact on me so far this year is "The Cave" by Mumford and Sons. If you have not heard this masterpiece of banjo-alt-rock glory, please take a moment to do so now:

Lyrically, this is one of the best songs that I have heard in awhile. I don't know how else to describe other than fantastic.

The end of the song, the voice that comes out of their singer - so pained, but so strong. AH. So good. I am telling you, if you don't know it, you will learn to love it. This particular song has completely changed my life.

I simply feel like they relate so strongly to a particular situation (actually two) in my life and I am so grateful that I was able to stumble across this song again.

I first heard it last year, but it definitely needed 2011 to flourish, at least for me.

A New Music Obsession

Take a listen to this GEM.

I'm sort of obsessed with this song. It's slow but still dripping with sex. I love it.

(Awolnation - "Sail")

A Glimpse of My Life

Above, you can see the loves of my life: my best friends and sisters (and brother) in Epsilon Sigma Alpha. I love the people more than life itself and I would be nothing without them.

Fun fact about me: I brought a chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha to my campus actually. I contacted nationals and voila, here we are. We are the BEST Greek organization that our campus has ever seen and I could never be more proud to say that I am the person who started it all, because my legacy is so strong and amazing. I have two amazing littles, and a pseudo-little that I love dearly who will be the president and leader next year, and just the best friends that a girl could ask for.

I am sad that I graduated solely for ESA and all that it has done for me. I'm so attached I can't even leave!

Why Blog?

Why am I blogging?

Simple - I merely need something to do.

I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in English eight days ago. Because I graduated eight days ago with a liberal arts degree, I feel that it is a given that I do not have a big-girl job yet.

The past eight days of being a college graduate have been somewhat less than exciting. Professors and parents make the event seem like the sky is going to open up and glittery light will fall upon those who walk across the stage, the glittery light of success. I am pretty sure that nothing of said magnitude happened, unless of course I missed it (which could be possible.)

So because of this lack of excitement, I have decided to take on blogging. I am looking to fill my time with something that is healthy, network-ready, and of course fun.

What do I plan to blog about?

Fun stuff of course. I just want to talk about things that interest me. Things that I find that look cool. Things that I find that make me happy. And most importantly, things that I find that just down right piss me off.

You down? Good.

I look forward to revealing myself via the internet and in turn having others do the same. Anything is better than resulting to World of Warcraft and Mountain Dew I suppose.
